Ko-Yu Chan’s Biography: Ko-Yu Chan, principal flutist of The Philharmonic Orchestra and The Symphonic Wind Ensemble of Penn State School of Music, was born in Changhua, Taiwan. She attended National University of Tainan for her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education with a full scholarship of Taiwan Ministry of Education. Since 2001, she has been a certified music teacher and choir conductor at Chong-Yang Public Elementary School in Taipei. In 2006, she received her Master’s degree in Music Education from Taipei Municipal University of Education. In 2008, Ko-Yu came to Penn State to study for her Master’s degree in Flute Performance. At Penn State, she studies with Dr. Eleanor Duncan Armstrong. Meanwhile, Ko-Yu is the instructor of Woodwind Techniques (MUSIC 254A) and Flute Section (WWNDS 110J). In 2009, she won the third place in the Performance division at the Penn State Graduate Exhibition.
